Roma Ristorante Italiano

Pizza. I think everyone out there has a different idea of what pizza is supposed to be. Some like it thin. Some like it thick. Some like it cheesy. Some like it saucy. To be honest, everyone should at some point in there life do some soul searching and figure out what kind of pizza is "their" pizza.

You know, I think that the convenience of delivery has killed the quality in a lot of pizza. Now all people care about is how fast can it get here and how cheap can I get it. Maybe it's just me but if I am going to get crappy pizza. I am going to CiCi's where at least I can get as much as I want. But for me, the pizza I find myself craving is just a plain cheese pizza from Roma Ristorante Italiano. This is an Italian place down the road. To be honest there normal menu items seem to be a bit overpriced (which is a common gripe I have with most Italian restaurants. I mean how much should pasta and sauce cost, at the grocery store it is around $7 by my calculations. I just have a hard time spending more than $10 for pasta, but for some reason this is accepted by most people.) But the reason we head to Roma Ristorante Italiano is their large pie.

The large is huge! I mean huge. Julie and I, at our best, can take down half. And that is the way pizza is supposed to be! It is thin, so if that is not for you, sorry. It is covered with melty, gooey, artery clogging cheese and enough sauce to left you know it is there. The crust is amazing. It is crispy on the bottom and side, yet still soft and doughy on the inside. Here are somethings I look for in a good pizza that the pizza at Roma Ristorante Italiano has.

1.) You have to use a fork for the first few bites - this indicates the pizza has enough toppings and size so that the weight of the goodness is too much to the humble crust to handle. It also indicates the bottom of the crust in not burnt or too crispy.

2.) The cheese does not slide off when dishing it out - That is something you do have to be careful at Roma Ristorante Italiano, but overall once the pizza settles, it all good.

3.) About half-way through you can fold in half and devour. This way nothing falls out on your plate. This circumvents the awkwardness of using your fork to clean up bits of cheese and sauce that you have lost along the way. How embarrassing.

The bottom line, for me, with Roma Ristorante Italiano is that is one of my favorite places for pizza, but not much else. I don't really do the rest of their menu. But the pizza is consistently good. Service is always top notch. It is just a great neighborhood Italian restaurant, especially if you want some good Pizza.
